“Well, I think by now everyone has heard my story, but I wont mind sharing it again because I am actually impressed with myself! And I was shocked and thrilled to see how EASY it was to get a few clients. I would say that my first client is actually my first 3 clients, because they all happened in 2 days.
“The first one is an attorney out of LA who I have known for a while, so I called him and asked, “Hey, what do you do to market your business online?” I got a fantastic response… “Nothing. I have a website, so people should be able to find me.” Once he said that, I knew I had him. Basically, I ended up pitching to him that he needed some SEO to get on the first page of google. He agreed, and agreed to pay me $2,500 up front and $750/month ongoing! Not bad for my first attempt!
“Second attempt was an optometrist that I know in town, and asked him the same question, “What do you do to market your business online?” Same response…. “Nothing.” I pitched to him he needed some SEO as well, and he agreed to pay me $1500 up front and $500 ongoing… Not bad for one days work… 2 clients with $3,000 up front and $1,250/month ongoing.
“My third was a real estate agent I am good friends with, and I actually sent him a text message asking “Do you know any realtors who would want to be on the first page of google when someone searches for real estate in Las Vegas?” (Dumb Question right???) He responded… “No.” So I said, “ok, well, I’ll ask around then.” He sent me back another text 3 seconds later saying “what kind of question is that? ME!!!!! Can you help? I don’t even have a website!” (Ummmm… let me think… YEAH!) Because he is a good friend and I knew he has a bunch of really good connections, I told him I will do it for him for DIRT cheap under one condition… He has to bring me more business. He agreed to pay me $1000 up front, $500/month, and has already referred me to a mortgage broker who just spent $5,000 on print advertising, a title company who I know spends quite a bit on print adverts but is doing NOTHING online, and a guy who just bough a website that is not making him any money. I am confident I will get at least 2 of these clients for the big kahuna package.. I think i can get $10,000 up front out of each of them with $1500/month ongoing… I’ll keep you updated.

I would like to congratulate Steve because he actually went out and did something to become successful.
But… without trying to be negative here… I really must wonder if he would have ever had success without “knowing” all of the poeple he does?
I’m not saying that he wouldn’t… I just know that the average person absolutely hates cold calling and that is why they never get started.

Hey Steve (assuming you’re reading these replies) are you building the websites for clients using WordPress as suggested?
Or are you building html website with blogs attached?

Dexx, Yes, I try to only build sites on wordpress, unless they have some specific reason why they need something else, but most of the time wordpress can do everything. I build them custom wordpress themes and have my programmer build in any additional functionality that they may need.
Great success story… I think everyone’s “problem” starting out is getting that FIRST client. Its great that Steve’s first clients were people that he actually… there were no gatekeepers to get by… no nervous cold calls… but once you get that 1st client you gain confidence, and it gets easier.

Thanks for all the support guys! To answer a few questions… No, I did not use my brother to get any business… he didnt even know I was doing this until after the challenge when I told him, also, business owner dont know internet marketers. No, I just used what Maria gave me and went out and did it.
As far as fulfillment is concerned, I outsource everything to my 4 employees I have working for me in the Philippines. They are awesome, so no, I dont have fulfillment problems.
Just an update, I am got a few more clients in addition to these… A dentist, a suppliment store, a clothing store, a lawyer, and have 4 proposals out that will hopefully be signed next week. I’m working on getting it up to $10K in residual income per month. I am expecting that to happen before the end of the month. Then its on to $100k/month!
So, can this be done???? Absolutely. Just get out and start selling it.

I would be very interested to know what has happened since Steve made these sales. Is he struggling to actually provide the services? If not, is he outsourcing or doing the work himself? Did he have any prior experience in providing these services?
