Social Marketing Stats DOUBLE for Small Business

maria gudelis | March 15, 2010

A picture says 1,000 words doesn't it?

Here is the latest stats from "The State of Small Business Report" and I found this great chart above from eMarketer.

As per eMarketer:

According to “The State of Small Business Report” from Network Solutions and the Center for Excellence in Service at the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business. Social media usage increased to 24%, from 12% the year before.

The most common usage of social media among small business was a company page on a social networking site, followed by posting status updates.

I thought this was a great statistic given the economy 'sour state' and yet….small businesses are selecting the wise choice:

Online marketing and increasing their social media marketing presence!

If you are a social media marketing consultant…these numbers show your efforts and choice of consulting practice to be very wise indeed!

What do you think?

Thanks for the great stats!  Our clients are seeing immediate benefits from the social media campaigns we have set up and are managing for clients.  it is essential for business owners to be where the people are and people are on social networks!

Wow, Maria! Those stats are waaay higher than I would have guessed. I think that chart would be a great tool to show prospective clients. If they're not doing any social media yet, then finding out that a whopping 75% of small businesses have a company page on Facebook or LinkedIn would be a powerful incentive for them to 'get with the program' or be left behind!
I am going to use that chart in the short presentation I'm doing next Thursday for a small group of business women. Thanks, Maria!

Wow, another tool in my arsenal to help convince business owners how marketing trends are shifting. Some of them really have no clue how important it is to have an online presence.
Other good sources I have found are Entrepreneur, HarvardBusiness, and Yahoo's 2010 Marketing Trends. You see basically the same thing in all reports. Social Media , Mobile Marketing, Video Marketing, and Local Searches all on the rise.
