The Importance of Social Media and Social Networking Sites
mariagudelis | November 3, 2008Every day, we see new blogs and websites being launched, products being made and services being offered. And you thought we’re having an economic crisis.
Many press releases have declared €“ it is social media that’s fueling this development in the internet world €“ it is sites like Digg, Delicious and many others that keeps the cyber economy afloat. Through social networking sites, you can now bring your website into the audience of millions of internet users with just a click of button.
Let’s take MySpace for example, one of the first social networking sites established. The demographics of that site shows that 36% of users are aged 35 to 54 and that there are about 500,000 blog posts published on the site which covers various topics. Now imagine the potential for free advertising on this site. With every blog post, you can be sure that someone will read it, especially if you’ve already built your network.
By showing understanding of your target market, you can build a strong audience for your blog or website without having to spend thousands for internet marketing or millions for offline advertising. Many people complain that social networking sites do not work and that it is but a waste of time, but seasoned internet marketers agree that social sites are important especially for startup sites since this is the easiest way they can bring attention to their otherwise obscure website.
