Could Groupon Give The Money Key to Indie Filmmakers?
maria gudelis | July 25, 2010
Having extremely talented friends in the film making business…I see how hard it is for them to get distribution into theaters unless they have raised millions to assist on the marketing and promotion side…
What is a GREAT Social media Success story is the recent use of Groupon to get an indie film into theaters!

It's a story of innovation using today's social media tools….Check out the full story over at Mashable's site here.
THINK, INNOVATE & COMMENT BELOW – How can your business start using Groupon today?

Groupon marketing can generate a lot short term and long-term traffic for small businesses. The key is planning before the sale and executing the plan.
You must pick the right high margin service or product and get the contact info to follow up by email, direct mail and text messaging. I have purchased numerous Groupon vouchers and not a single company has tried to get my contact info or follow up with another offer. That is why there are so many negative stores about Groupon being bad for small business.
You did it again Maria – exposed me to a concept/service that I was not aware of. I went on to the Groupon site to see what local businesses were using Groupon. Apparently, Groupon does not have any deals in Hawaii yet.
It seems like there could be huge opportunity for the Groupon concept to take-off here in Hawaii with the focus on tourism. I will have to investigate further to determine how I could integrate Groupon with Social Media Consulting and not "balloon up" from all the deals I'd be getting at the local restaurants

Hi Maria… I took a look at Groupon and had a quite a few ideas on how to use it to attract tourists and promote tourism.
My excitement was somewhat diminished when I found that Groupon was only available in a handful of major Canadian cities. I have submitted a request to add my city in British Columbia to the list.
I'll let you know what "Groupon" has to say.

Hey Dave – i did notice that but it is ‘New’ and i think the demand in more cities will come! Also – keep in mind there are ‘comparable’ sites popping up as well.

Hey Maria – I first found out about groupon when I opened one of my yahoo accounts and noticed the banner ad that said "san jose discount restaurants" and it was a link to a groupon ad. I thought, wow that's cool. Went to sign up on the site as a publisher and never heard back. Do you know if they have relaxed the publisher entry criteria yet? Have you tried yet?

Hey Lisa- haven’t tried that yet – to sign up as a publisher – just been ‘eyeing’ it and similar sites to that as well. Cheers, Maria
I love Groupon! I think I will try to use them for my next event.
This was a really good idea. Thanks for sharing Maria!

I’m sure there will be plenty more services like it too but yes – it does look sweet and especially new entrants to it for a city not even on there yet! E.g. when i selected Toronto – only a few restaurants know about this, are using it! one cool tour company uses it as well and also what a great way to take care of ‘slow days’…
