[VIDEO] Selling a Red Brick with A Story – Winner of Cannes Greatest Salesmen Award

maria gudelis | June 21, 2010
This is a great video.  Watch it now.  Todd Herman (a fellow Canuck!) won the contest put on by internationally renowned advertising firm OgilvyOne.  Got him a great trip to Cannes to boot!

Tell me below what you think too with a comment!  Do You Like it?  And WHY!

Why I love it the Todd Herman "Greatest Salesperson in the World" Video:

1. What a way to craft a story into the sales message
2. Unique twist to it – what a way to add emotion to a 'simple red brick'
3. I LOVE the reference to "Ancient Sumerians" -  how a simple red brick built EMPIRES!
4. The BENEFITS – "Every red brick represents a DREAM" – an action – Used to build street to "CONNECT US ALL" – what a way to bring in  HUGE BENEFITS!
5. Use of one of the most powerful word in sales – YOU – (words like "like the greatest creators before YOU")
6. Tying it to a charity – Red Cross
7.. Oh and so much more -  Watch it below!
8. Todd, I don't even know you but a BIG CONGRATS to you and hope Cannes was a BLAST for you!

Wow! What a great job Todd did with that video! As you say, Maria… with his story he evokes emotion, outlines the benefits, uses of the word 'you' and ties it to a charity – brilliant!
But, the brilliance of his 'pitch' is simply evidenced by the fact that I feel crazily compelled to pull out my credit card and buy a red brick, for gosh sakes!!!!! lol

Many businesses can follow this model to command attention in the social media sphere.

I really like how OgilvyOne used this contest to self promote. The multi-platform contest generated over 230 submissions on YouTube from 12 countries, more than 100,000 visits to the YouTube brand channel, and 90,000+ video views.

I love the new service/app created from this contest, more promotion for OgilvyOne. http://www.ogilvy.com/News/Press-Releases/June-2010-Todd-Herman-Voted-Worlds-Greatest-Salesperson.aspx

great video, Todd has gives the Red Brick evolutionary status compared to the wheel. Simple and powerful, with a symbolic destiny… and using it for charitable purposes… awesome…

I think this is an exceptional piece of advertising…

although he is aided by the fact that red bricks are actually quite nice,
and that 'the brick' already has so many positive connations.

Hey Marcus! I thought so too! What a great crafting of a story with benefits, imagination and the ability to tie in the brick to imagine yourself building, like ‘the great creators of the past’ an empire!
